The number of homes listed for sale in the Harrisburg, York and Lancaster areas dropped by an average of 5.7% in May versus May 2021, data from Redfin shows.
The percentage of active home listings dropped the most in the 17317 ZIP code (East Prospect, York County) and 17024 ZIP code (Elliotsburg, Perry County). Both ZIP codes had more than a 60% drop in active home listings since May 2021.
“The real estate market across Pennsylvania is robust. Like much of the country, we’re seeing prices hit record highs,” said Christopher Beadling, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors in a news release. However, he noted that across Pennsylvania, the number of listings is down 25.5% since May 2021.
“That continues to be a challenge for homebuyers entering the market with just under three months of inventory available,” Beadling said. “Usually six months is considered a balanced market.”
Statewide, there were 38,974 home listings in May.
Not every county saw listings drop. The biggest percentage increases are in portions of Lancaster, Franklin and Perry counties. In Duncannon, there were 27 active listings in May, a 50% increase over a year ago.
